When I was in Electronic Engineering school I learned a valuable trick that I have used often and just last night when one of our TV controllers started going on the blink. Just like your computer keyboard, TV controllers, DVR controllers and etc. have circuit boards where traces or thin wires intersect so that when you push a button a carbon/rubber disc under it makes contact with the traces and tells the device to change channels, start, turn off, increase volume and other functions. I pried the TV controller apart and took the erase on a pencil and cleaned the contact points on the circuit board and the carbon/rubber buttons off. Don't press too hard just enough to clean the contact points. Now we have a new controller and I saved $$$$.

Internet Explorer? Well, there's your problem right there LOL. Borrow a USB stick and a friend's computer, download Firefox or Google Chrome and install it on yours from the USB stick. If you absolutely have to use Internet Explorer(yuck) download their latest steaming pile they call Internet Explorer 8.

Oh for heavens sake I don't want to put IE 8 on it. What a mess that is!!! I bought a computer with it loaded for my older brother and had to remove all but 6 of the Apps as it was developed for the new Microsoft smart phone that came out. Pile I liked that ..... .

You can retrieve photos, documents and etc. from the screen on your computer even if they are protected by using the Snipping Tool. This came free with my Windows 7 but I think you can download it for nothing. I use it all the time then send the files to my picture folder.

Watched this video and learned some new things. A few of the suggestions got rid of some unwanted junk (Ask.com) and others. If you are not sure of what your going to do please refrain from doing something you may regret. Good luck. www.youtube.com/watch?v=twJk7ymLmfA

Major office makeover starts today and not looking forward to it one bit since a lot of those wires behind the desk have been plugged into "something" for 13 years LOL. At one time all 5 towers had something plugged into every USB port but today with all the wireless and bluetooth stuff I suppose I could mothball most of the unused USB hubs and external drives. Retiring three towers as well since the new computer is doing all their work now. They're way too old to be any good to anyone so they're off to the electronics recycler. Sort of sad to see my 13 year old original website builder computer retired after all those years of flawless performance - if it wasn't for the end of support for Windows XP it would be still doing the website updates.
There's just way too much stuff in this room. Besides all the computers and computer related stuff there's a satellite receiver, a big TV, surround sound, radio/CD player, DVD player, turntable and amp, cell phone charger, lamps and a land line phone. One of the towers, a spare scanner and a spare printer will be going out to Mom's rug hooking studio so I won't have to design and print their rug hooking patterns at home anymore. That way her Wednesday group will be able to get their patterns done right away instead of waiting until the next Wednesday. The only downside is it may cut into my garage time.

How big is that room Don? Sounds like youz gotz lotza stuff in there. Problem is it's only a 10X12 room and there was two desks, three chairs, an entertainment center, record cabinet and several miles of wire in it LOL. Today I retired one desk, one chair, two towers, one Pocket PC, one monitor, four external hard drives and three powered USB hubs. Most of those things had that big black box that doubles as a plug which only allows you to plug maybe three of them into a ten plug power bar.

Sounds like you upgraded to first class in the renovation department. I need to clean out my computer room too but I still have a path to the keyboard!
