have to laugh about the way our education system is going , last night I had to call rock auto to see if my parts were shipped for a job I am doing as it was posted as shipped but fed ex hadn't processed it , talked to the guy at rock auto to see where its coming from so I can make arrangements to get the car from the customer . the guy told me Arizona ( AZ) , I was like thats odd , ussually they come from Texas or Arkansas , but its not unussual for them as they some times come from different warehouses so that means they will be here next monday, well this morning I checked the tracking system and it says shipped from Ft Smith Arkansas (AR) , hmm makes me wonder as rock auto only hires University of Wisconsin Students as there staff . I hope he isn't a geography major or someone who will work for the post office ..as when he gets the abreviation for Idaho ( ID) it will be I don't know...

Breakfast at BK then to Lowes for some bathroom sink drain parts, came home found it was too short, over to Carter Lumber for longer pipe, back and can't find my Plumbers putty, back to Carter's, back home everything is in and doesn't leak. Take a break for couple of hours till Sharon gets home. Out for dinner, over to Dollar Tree for cards then to Wallymart for Sharon's hair thingydingys then home. Hot as the blazes outside so AC is on and we iz enjoying it. Ultrasound on kidney this morning and blood work. I spend more time at the doctors office than at home anymore. Old age is not for sissys.

Got word this morning from the race committee that our final points race this weekend has been cancelled. The forecast is for heavy rain and high winds today(setup day) 70% chance of rain for Saturday and 60% chance of showers for Sunday. Not sure if that's good or bad for me. Now I will finish 2nd in Cape Breton Dragway Sportsman Class points but if we had got the event in and since I'm only 9 points out of first(less than one round) there was a possibility of either finishing first or a worst case scenario of 4th if the two below me in the points were to get to the final round. Oh well - I guess 2nd place in points is an improvement over last year's 4th place finish.

You got that right, Wheelz...busy day ahead. Meeting client at 9, having 50 more invitations done for his upcoming 50th wedding anniversary. I made the whole deal: invitations, RSVPs (both sides), Accommodations card (both sides), stuffed 'em in envelopes, added postage, applied return address labels, etc., for half of what an invitation company would charge. He is paying me well. Life is good. Anyway, dropping the data stick off at FedEx/Kinkos at 9:30, coming home, call Sylvester (taking him grocery shopping some time today). Job interview at Guitar Center at 2...I don't think I'm going to work there if they pay minimum wage. I heard that's their deal. They sure did like me from my application, though. They called me 4 minutes after I submitted it online. I'll see. I'll have to see because I can't hear anymore LOL. Everybody have a great weekend! WC1
Just saw your post, Don. Second is a lot better than Fourth, but with your car being so dialed-in it's too bad you didn't get to run it and take over First Place. Still a great season, though!

My day you ask, Would you believe the church secretary called, told me the man to mow this week took sick, and the regular substitute is on Va-ca. She said "I know you cut last week, but could you help us out?" Say no more little lady, I'll be there with helmet ......er.....um.....I'll be there with bells on. After filling the tank with Sunoco, putting the gloves on, and head set, I could almost swear I heard: "ATTENTION!! - ATTENTION!! in the pit area........ You'll be proud to know I demonstrated proper physical restraint. No, not even one.

betcha people around there were wondering why he was going forward then backing up and then inching forward stopping reving the motor up and doing a full straight run and then repeats it again going the other way .... ( but his reaction times are getting better ..
as for me the simple brake job on the neighbors car turned into the brake job from hell , If I find out what Firestone automotive hack butchered that car I am gonna get him with a Bendix spring tool .first the hooked then then the hold down spring remover
1st thing I run into lets cross thread the lug stud then back it off then grind the threads off the stud hammer it on with a socket to try to engage some threads only to strip them out then glue the nut to the stud so you can thread the plastic lug cover in the hub cap on .
2. bust the pin off in the caliper bracket that attaches to the spindle ,hog it out with a dull drill bit then drive a piece of brake line in the hole then mount the bracket back on and must have used a impact as the bolt was bottlenecked and snapped off so only 1/8 of the pin was holding the caliper in place, called the owner to se what he wanted to do . he said fix it please , called salvage yard and 20 minutes earlier they had a 2007 impala come in that someone forgot to stop and flatnosed it against a semi . for $ 20 bucks I got 2 pins , the bracket , and a caliper and the brakes were done recently by looking at the pads I had to wait 2 hours for the guy to take it off the car but it was worth it ,( just the pins alone saved $15 bucks ) got 2 wheel studs and used the old dental floss method to sneak it in place so I didn't have to pull the hub and e brake , spent 39 total for all the extra parts ,
and also while I was there at the salvage yard I asked about a battery for the exploder and said he had a couple that might fit , well I went there today with my core battery , and good luck was ther as they just recieved a explorer that was rotted out and looked like the owners had a last hurra with it mudding and the body was partially collapsed from the metal rotting out . but there was a 7 month old Group 65 interstate battery under the hood , I got a 145 dollar battery for $30.put it on the load cell works perfect !
But my luck ended tonight when I was doing the front brakes on the explorer ( the pedal was getting low and it was 75K On the fronts , measured them hmmm they put new pads on but reused the rotor ( I bought new ones anyways and glad I did ) discard is .96 the good rotor was .90 , the drivers side was .848 just a little worn out ... so got the drivers side done , got the passenger side apart , stuck caliper pin , hit it with some heat and it shot across the garage from the silicon in the bottom of the blind bore , cleaned that pin up cleaned out the rust and lube , reassemble and righ as I am tightening down the last caliper pin bolt , yep.... snap ...... time 10:02 pm 2 minutes after the stores close .... so tommorrow get the pins and finish the job but they are calling for rain all day . right now the front end is on a jackstand and a bag is covering the new rotor and pads .
but hopefully someone will buy it now with the new battery and brakes .otherwise we might keep it as a spare vehicle ..

Mowed the lawn after it dried off a bit yesterday before Daryl and Heidi came down. Over to the Vietnam Wall, had a rather solemn few minutes walking the wall and seeing all the ones that never came home then Heidi and Sharon got up in an Airboat with a SBC in it for pictures and afterwards they stood behind it and the owner fired it up at idle and almost blew them away. He told us some gruesome stories about Nam such as the men in foxholes directly next to the North Vietnamese line and tigers would come and snatch them by the neck and drag them off as they couldn't fire their weapons to save themselves as they would give their position away. Had a big lump in my throat after that and other stories and could barely talk. Showed our guests the big park we have with amusement rides, open air stage for concerts then over to eat some Italian food. Heidi brought Men In Black 3 and we tried to blow the windows out of the house with the Theater surround system. All too soon we had to say goodbye after an incredible day of fun. We will do that again soon. Thanks for coming kids.

Since racing was cancelled for the weekend I decided to head out to my little hometown(village) of Port Morien( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Morien) for their 57th annual Country Fair. Haven't been there for years because our last event at Cape Breton Dragway is always scheduled for the same weekend. Talk about bringing back a flood of memories - when I was a kid I used to drag cows and sometimes horses down the 3 miles from home to the village center and stay with them all day brushing and cleaning them. Yesterday there was not one animal in the fair. But the best part was seeing people I haven't seen in years and getting caught up on their lives. Got some bad news when I got home. A good friend of mine I've known for 40+ years got killed yesterday when a cable or chain or clevis or something from the winch on the front of his logging truck snapped, came through the windshield of his truck and killed him instantly. Him and his brothers were specialists in urban tree removal and had been doing it for decades. Regional Police and the Dept of Labour are investigating the incident so we're still not really sure exactly what happened. Like me Jerry had just gotten back into Drag Racing after being away from it for years and had just gotten his 1969 Road Runner to break the 11 second barrier for the first time. What really bothers me is if we had been racing yesterday like we should have been Jerry would have been at the track instead of working. Damn........

Sorry to hear about Jerry, Don. It was his time. Rest in peace. Folks, Don did a special favor to me and the band and put Cheryl's tribute graphic on the front page of our website for a few days. Her funeral is at 10 AM today. I'm a pallbearer. Hate to lose our friends but it is a reminder that life is short and there are no guarantees. Gotta make each day count.
In a shocking display of pussified arrogance the likes of which I haven't seen in years, our sax player walked out on us in the middle of a song last week. He was replaced immediately after the gig. In my opinion what this guy did was a totally childish and stupid act of unprofessional discourtesy that hurt the band. It won't look good on his resume, that's for sure. It wasn't even a band issue. The PA system that the club provided was malfunctioning. Go figure. He sure showed us, didn't he...
Barb's been finding some great guests for the show. We have Ed Iskenderian coming up. Also Jack Wyatt and Eddie Krawiec. Life is good.
